Sunday afternoon we play a small but lovely gig at the Munk Store in Melville (thanks Dylan!) next to where we live. Some of the very nice people from the night before came to see Filewile again like the promoter of the party the night before Domimique aka DJ D-Uneek and the hostess with the mostest, Masello, Breece, Garfield, Zipo, Zamo, Franny… THANK YOU FRIENDS!!
Monday: sightseeing Joburg and on the way to Soweto we pass by the new main stadium for the football worldcup 2010. Soweto (South West Township) was home of Mandela as well as Bishopf Tutu and was the center point of the fight against Apartheit. Both got the Peace Nobel Price and lived in the same street.
On Tuesday lovely 500km road trip to Maputo-Mosambik, the boarder is very fun...

Wed, 23 nov 8 AM: Filewile at Zürich Airport with the mission to get 40kgs extra weight (equipment) on a Swiss plane. Picture the young man working at the check-in desk (Hochstrasser) saying „I’m sure you don’t want to know how much it is gonna cost you..“. We don’t hesitate, pay sFr. 2000.- (!) and Hochstrasser didn’t quite believe what he saw..
In Dar Es Salaam (Tansania) we’re picked up by Chicu from the Swiss Embassy. Sleeping in Mövenpick Hotel.. Next day sightseeing with our sista Mikhela whom we know from Berne. She is working on a film about women in Tansania. Mikhela brings us to the whitest beach we’ve ever been to, see the pictures on facebook!!
The gig in Sweet Eazy is very nice, people enjoy it a lot! The Club is owned by Swiss guys Reto and Tom and because it’s the „Swiss Night“ we also meet the Swiss Embassador Adrian Schläpfer. After the gig no sleep and directly to Dar airport, take off for RSA.
In Johannesburg we are picked up by Tracy from Pro Helvetia and tour photographer Suede. We meet Pedro Da Silva from 340ml to work together on a brand new track which will become the new summer hit!! Then Radio live interwiew at SAfm with one of South African’s most famous journalists Michelle Constant and national airplay. The gig at Arts On Main is fantastic, the young and hip crowd falls in love with Joy and are excited about the performance together with Pedro. Folks talk about us to be the „most refreshing act Johannesburg has seen in years (even ever..)“.
Some Quotes on Filewile's Album Blueskywell:
Musicweek UK: Filewile tap into the madcap genius tradition started by
fellow swiss agent provocateurs Yello….
Der Bund Switzerland: …Ihr neues Album ist ein Meisterwerk mit Hit und höchst holprigen Beats…
Strangefruitmusic UK: they actually do sound weird but in a good way…So if you think you are ready for something that kinda sounds familiar but turns out to be something completely different I suggest you check ‘em out!
music.ch: …Alles närrisch gut und autark. “Blueskywell” ist der Pop des
nächsten Jahrzehnts…
Mahoganyblog USA: …So instead of breaking the adjectives out, have a listen for
yourself and think Groove Armada meets Erykah Badu after
they split a pill….
Themahoganyblog: …So instead of breaking the adjectives out, have a listen for yourself and think Groove Armada meets Erykah Badu after they split a pill….
Neue Luzerner Zeitung: …Gut gepolstert, mit starken Basspulsen, vielseitiger Stimme und urbaner Aufgedrehtheit.
Flyglobal UK: …And if you can imagine Ozzy Osborne doing 8-bit cover versions of Augustus Pablo (not as bad as it sounds), go for ‘King Of The World’. In fact, this could be the track of the album but there’s some stiff competition with Joy giving her best Grace Jones impression on ‘Iron Lady’ that gets a guest appearance by another FLY favourite, RQM) .

Our Friends from Wankdorf Recordings/Bussi Records just released a new free Single Release:
Electric Blanket's recent single «My Eyes My Heart» became somewhat of an indie-hit at radio stations from the North Sea to Lake Geneva. While being on tour with their current album «How Much Peanut Butter» the band now launches another single, «I Hate Sundays».
In «I Hate Sundays» Singer Helenka slogs herself through a sump of confused emotions. As its name suggests, the song is a hymn to sundays' depression and at the same time, a wonderful cure to it. «I Hate Sundays» creates an epic vastness and hugs you like an old friend. For the band and also for many fans, the song is the secret apogee on the current album «How Much Peanut Butter».
It gets even better: Electric Blanket are offering «I Hate Sundays» as free download on their website www.electricblanket.ch. "Giving away «I Hate Sundays» for free, is our way of saying thank you to the people who support us by buying our music. It's a wonderful feeling to share something you really love." says guitarist Patrick.
The Band is now excited to continue its tour with a nice bunch of summer shows.
